The Clinton County Sports Hall of Fame inducted its first class in 1997. But the process began much earlier. My search through microfilm dating back to 1838 provided a glimpse into the rich - yet unknown to me - history of sports in Clinton County. Looking for school records was not terribly productive because not all information was published following each game. However, what was unlocked was names of those athletes who were highly decorated in their time and deserved to be honored even if the record book wasn't going to be that place. Thus, the Clinton County Sports Hall of Fame was born. My editor then was Clarence Graham. He gave me the latitude to stick my head in that microfilm machine and journey back in time as part of my job. The logo at the left is what appears on the plaque each inductee receives. It includes the names of what is believed to be all of the high school in Clinton County's history. Most of them are no longer in service, having been gobbled up in consolidation. They remain, however, worth mentioning. So as I update the site and include bios of each of the inductees, this can be used not only as a news site to feature each class as they were honored but a history lesson to those of use who aren't familiar with our great county's past.
